Obituary of Melvin Samuelson
Melvin E. Samuelson, 82, of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Lutheran Living. A Celebration of Life for Melvin will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Rose Bowl. The Geo. M. Melvin Earnest Samuelson was born on January 9, 1937 in Fairfield, Iowa the son of Earnest and Viola (Messer) Samuelson. Melvin was a graduate of Fairfield High School. In 1960, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ahrens at Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church. He later married Elizabeth Griffin in Muscatine. Melvin had worked for Huttigs, Webber Button Factory and PlaMor Lanes. He was a treasuer/secretary for the Union in Muscatine. He enjoyed gambling, watching sports, bowling, spending time with his grandchildren and his Boston Terrier, Pablo.
Melvin will be deeply missed by his children, Mike (Patty) Samuelson of Muscatine, Pamela (James) Paul of Letts, Craig (Cathy) Samuelson of Muscatine, Melissa (Scott) McDaniel of Wapello and Jason Samuelson of Muscatine; step-children, Glenda (Sheldon) Drake of Midland, TX and Tim Schwab of Muscatine; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Samuelson of Fairfield; sisters, Helen (Ed) Neiderhuth of Stockport, Sharon James of Fairfield; sisters-in-law, Kay (Ron) Horton of Muscatine and Carol Griffin of Muscatine and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his 2nd wife, Elizabeth; two step-sons, Michael and Jeff Schwab; two great-grandchildren, Carson and Addison Calvin and brother, Kenneth Samuelson.
