Obituary of Jay Daniel LaRue

Jay D. LaRue, 52, of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation for Jay will be Thursday, May 30 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Jay’s name. Jay Daniel LaRue was born on May 5, 1967 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Donald S. and Beverly (Schlotfelt) LaRue.  On December 21, 1989, he was united in marriage to Florence Avis.  Jay worked for the Carpenters Union Local 1260 out of Iowa City.  He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.  Jay enjoyed being on the river, fishing, golfing, racing motorcycles, NASCAR and doing roller hockey in his younger years.  More than anything, Jay enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren.

Jay will be deeply missed by his daughter, Jayme (Ryan) Solomon of Muscatine; grandchildren, Kendra Bueno and Elise and Nolen Solomon; his dogs, Dude, Luna and rocket; his granddog, Tesla; father, Donald LaRue, Sr. of Burlington; siblings, Debra Frye of Muscatine, Donald (Kay) LaRue, Jr of Muscatine, Michelle (Chuck Aldridge) of New Boston and Kay (Raymond Smith) Paetz of Muscatine; and several nieces and nephews.

Jay was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Billingsly; daughter, Chassity LaRue; maternal and paternal grandparents; stepfather, Ellis Billingsly; step-mother, Fran LaRue; brother-in-law, Bill “Booper” Paetz and his dog, Otis.
