Obituary of Jose DeLeon

Jose Luis DeLeon, 66, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in El Paso, Texas. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Mathias Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Jason Crossen will officiate. Casket bearers will be Harold Loos, Gary Diercky, Dave Sywassink, Joe DeLeon, Miles Simmons and Jared Holliday. Honorary casket bearers will be Richard DeLeon and Raymond DeLeon. Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at Gannon Hall. Local arrangements are in the care of the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home with prayers of the Rosary at 7:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Jose's name. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Jose Luis DeLeon was born on March 23, 1947 in Olmito, Texas, the son of Ramón and Anna (Bali) DeLeon. On September 9, 1967 Jose was united in marriage to Maria Ofelia Vargas in Brownsville, Texas. They later divorced. Jose worked for Bandag for 35 years, retiring in 2006. He served as a board member for Community Bank from 1980-1994. He was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church, and he enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, and most especially, spending time with his grandkids. Jose will be deeply missed by his children, Elizabeth Holliday and her husband, Todd of Muscatine, Laura DeLeon of Tempe, Arizona and Joseph M. DeLeon and his wife, Rachel of Tempe; five grandchildren, Jenessa Holliday, Jared Holliday, Miles Simmons, Aurelia DeLeon and Michael DeLeon; brothers and sisters, Ricardo DeLeon of Alice, Texas, Noe DeLeon and wife, DeAnna of Houston, Texas, Annabella Llosa and husband, Luis of Houston, Texas, Elida DeLeon of Houston, Texas, Delores Vasquez of Rio Hondo, Texas, Rosalinda Gonzalez and husband, Mariano of Houston, Texas, San Juana DeLeon of Davenport, Iowa, Alfonso DeLeon and wife, Grace of Muscatine, Dalia Solis and husband, Clemente of Davenport, Maria Madeo and husband, Tony of Rock Island, Illinois, Ida DeLeon of Texas and Joel DeLeon and wife, Kandis of Illinois City, Illinois. Jose was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Noe in infancy.
