We were sincerely sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Howe. Muscatine is a better place because of him and his many contributions to our community and the families who live and work here. I apologize for needing to leave early from the visitation to attend to grandchildren and wish that I could have stayed longer. Mrs. Howe and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Helen and Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Stan's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with each one of you.
I got to know Stan when I worked at Stanley, Lande and later when I took a position at HON Industries. He was such a kind and generous man who cared deeply for the people who were part of the "HON" family. He definitely lived the HON culture. I can see why Max Stanley groomed him to take over the HON helm. I enjoyed working with him on Board-related and stock issues. I can truthfully say he was the only executive I worked with who knew exactly what his stock holdings were. Once a month, he would pull out his little notebook, and we would go over his stock holdings together.
Rest in peace, Stan. Thank you for all you gave the Muscatine community.

Dear Helen,
I got to know and love Stan the year he chaired the Iowa Business Council. It was simply amazing watching his fine mind work. It was at his urging that we did a study on the environment with UNI. The results, contrary to common belief, showed that manufacturing, rather than being a polluter, was in fact a major contributor to effective conservation practices. I wondered at the time why he pushed for the study, but I know now it was because he knew what the findings were going to show. Conservation is simply good business...fewer inputs=lower costs and less waste.
During his term the governor and the legislature got in a major disagreement over the state budget. Stan offered to bring in the "Getting to Yes" mediation team from the Harvard Business School. He told me to tell the governor and the Speaker that IBC would foot the bill. I called both sides and left messages of our offer. By midnight that very day the two sides had reached agreement and passed the budget. I later was thanked by the Speaker for our help. So very Stan. He set the gold standard for business leadership.

A life well lived. Stan influenced a lot of people. I was fortunate to be one of the first tenants to work in the Stanley M. Howe Technical Center when it opened in 1991. You could just feel the integrity and wisdom rise when Stan walked into the room. He was greatly admired by the members at HON and his rock solid convictions set the tone for the whole organization. I can't think of another person who lived out the Scout Law as true as Stan Howe did. He was Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent. I pray for comfort to the Howe family in this time of great loss.

Helen and children,
I am so sorry for the loss of this great man. I spent many years working for The HON Company and Stan truly made sure that you felt like a family member when he spoke to you. I remember his reminiscing about the early years and how much change he had seen over his many years with that very good company. The world lost a very special person that truly made a difference in so many lives.
Sincerely,
Dick Yerington

I met Stan in 1968 when I first joined HON. His values have touched the lives of so many over the years. I often reflect on the things I learned from watching him. Being a part of the HON family truly touched my life. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time. I am a better person for having known him. All who knew him considered him not only the man in charge, but a friend. I know he rests in peace.

Dear Helen and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. What a great man Stan was! I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work for him for nine years at HON. He was so kind, fair and thoughtful.
