Obituary of Candy "Freida" Barnes
Candy “Freida” Barnes, 56, of Letts, passed away on June 15, 2017, surrounded by her family at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Cremation rites have been facilitated by the FCS Life Transition and Cremation Center. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Letts Community Center at 5:00 P.M. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Candy’s name. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. The Geo. M. Candy Sue was born on November 17, 1960 in Muscatine, Iowa the daughter of Katherine “Kate” Ann (Townsend) Pratt. On August 6, 1982, Candy was united in marriage to Jim Barnes in Muscatine. In her youth, Candy spent summers working at Cheri Top. She had worked for Heinz for 15 years, HON for 20 years, and most recently had been working part-time at Curry’s Auto. In her earlier years, Candy enjoyed the races and being the “hot dog” lady serving everyone hotdogs after the races. She loved being on the river, motorcycle rides and the Letts Fire Department Fish-Frys. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan. Her greatest love was the time she spent with her family and friends and her dog, George.
Candy will be deeply missed by her husband, Jim of Letts; three children, Robert (Stephanie) Barnes of Muscatine, Jeremy Barnes of Letts and Annie (John Schumacher) Barnes of Letts; mother-in-law, Phyllis Barnes of Letts; step-fathers, Larry (Lynn) Pohren and Jerry Pratt both of Muscatine; three siblings, Cindy (Kelly) Krenz of Letts, Jerry (Lisa) Pratt of Muscatine and Teresa (Mike) Hafner of Letts; extended family, LT Pohren, Leslie Moore, Lisa Turnbough and Leigh Nass; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Candy was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine “Kate” and father-in-law, Robert Barnes.
