Obituary of Barbara Ann Sandburg

Barbara A. Sandburg, 89, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at the Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2017, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.  Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.  Following the interment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the Mississsippi Valley Blood Center in Barbara’s name.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. 

Barbara Ann Swigert was born on April 18, 1928, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Helen (Wallick) Swigert.  On July 17, 1949, Barbara was united in marriage to Robert L. Sandburg in Galesburg.  She was a graduate of Galesburg High School and was a homemaker, tailor and a receptionist at Dr. Catalona’s office.  She was a member of the First Christian Church, enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and was a volunteer at the Mississippi Valley Blood Center in her retirement years. 

Barbara will be deeply missed by her children, Linda (Larry) Fuhlman of West Liberty, Janet (Dale) Cauthen of Kingsport, Tennessee, Gary (Sara) Sandburg of Ft. Madison, Judy (Tom) Phelps of Waukee, IA and Donna (Doug) Helgeson of Olathe, KS; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert on November 10, 2015.
