Obituary of Farrel Allen Gentzler

            Farrel Gentzler, 92, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Colonial Manor.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation for Farrel will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.  A memorial has been established at the funeral home for Washington County Hospice in Farrel’s name.   Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.  The Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremations Services are caring for Farrel’s family and his arrangements. 

            Farrel Allen Gentzler was born on August 2, 1925, in Columbus Junction, the son of Manford and Jessie (Allen) Gentzler.  Farrel served his country in the United States Army from 1944-1946, stationed in the South Pacific and Okinowa.  On March 5, 1949, Farrel married Delores Marshall in Columbus Junction.  Farrel worked as a distributor for Hometown Dairies and later went to work in sales at Farm Services of Columbus Junction, retiring in 1988.  He was a member of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.  Farrel was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved to golf with his boys.  Above everything, family was the most important to Farrel.        

            Farrel will be deeply missed by his wife Delores; sons, David (Shirley) Gentzler of Iowa City, Thomas (Cheryl) Gentzler of Indianola and Scott (Lea) Gentzler of Marion; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Marjorie Wieland of Lone Tree and Carol Ann (Joe) Howell of Columbus Junction. 

            He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary and Eileen and one brother, Burdette.
