Obituary of Dorothy Marie Washburn

Dorothy M. Washburn, 90, of New Boston, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at her home.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.  Burial will be in the Illinois City Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday, September 18, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Dorothy Marie Weikert was born on May 13, 1927, in Mercer County, Illinois the daughter of Hiram W. and Edna E. (Carpenter) Weikert.  Dorothy was united in marriage to Omer Howard in February of 1945 in Rock Island, Illinois.  Following Omer’s passing on October 30, 1982, she was united in marriage to Richard Brown in June of 1985 in Muscatine.  Following Richards passing on May 29, 1988, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Washburn on September 28, 2001 in Muscatine.  Dorothy worked for Muscatine Pearl Works, Maid Rite, Muscatine Schools and also In Home Care.  She was a member of the First Assembly of God where she was a greeter, had attended Grace Chapel in Joy, Illinois and was a member of AGLOW.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her daughter, Sharon Howard of Muscatine; nine grandchildren, including Wendy and her husband, Steve, who provided care for Dorothy over the past four years; seventeen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and step-children, Thelma Hidlebaugh, Leroy Howard, Miriam Neff and Phyllis Noble all of Muscatine.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, daughters, Gloria Cory and Mary Crook; step-children, Ruth Yerrington and Jerry Howard; three sisters, Amy, Edna and Lillian and two brothers, Harold and Leon.
