Obituary of Lela M. Kruse

Lela M. Kruse, 101, of Lone Tree, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017, at Atrium Village in Hills.  Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree.  Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Lone Tree Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lone Tree American Legion.  Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Lela was born on December 19, 1915, to Earl and Alleen (Davidson) Hinkley of Lone Tree, Iowa.  Lela graduated from Lone Tree High School in the Class of 1935.  She married Harold John Kruse of West Liberty, Iowa, on March 23, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa.  They lived in rural Lone Tree and farmed with Lela’s father until Earl’s death in May of 1976.  Harold and Lela continued to farm her father’s farm until Harold’s death in April of 1994.  Lela loved to cook and bake.  She enjoyed being with her grandchildren.  Lela and Harold enjoyed camping and fishing in their later years in life.  They enjoyed visiting and playing cards with their neighbors and friends all their married life.  Harold and Lela had two children, a son Terry and a daughter Jane.

Lela is survived by her son, Terry (Sandy) Kruse of Lone Tree, son-in-law, Keith Kurth of Iowa City and three grandchildren, Adrienne (Andy) Connor of Omaha, NE, Bradley (Megan) Kruse of Bennington, NE, and Ryan Kurth of Iowa City.  She is also has five great grandchildren, Cate, Quincy and Declan Connor and Kamden and Parker Kruse.  She has a niece Judith (Richard) Shyrack of Moline, IL and nephew Louis (Georgianna) Burson of Orion, IL.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Alleen, her husband, Harold, daughter Jane and sister, Helen Rexroth.
