Obituary of Delbert Raymond Wakefield, Jr.

Delbert R. Wakefield, Jr., 81, of Letts, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017 at his home.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.  Interment will be in Illinois City Cemetery.  Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Delbert’s name.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. 

Delbert Raymond Wakefield was born on August 15, 1936, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Delbert R. Wakefield Sr. and Jessie I. (Ricketts) Wakefield.  On October 15, 1981, Delbert was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Byrd in Hanford, California.  He served in the National Guard and worked in maintenance at Hayes Catholic School.  He enjoyed buying and selling and taking care of farm animals, fishing, going to the Kalona Sale Barn, putting on Christmas parties, KFC, and spending time with his family, especially the kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Delbert will be deeply missed by his children, Michael (Cindy) Wakefield of Grandview, Marla Wakefield of Muscatine, Lisa (Ronald) Munson of Muscatine and Delbert R. (Clytha) Wakefield, III, of Kansas City, KS; 12 grandchildren, 20 ½ great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and siblings, Bobbie Wakefield of Galesburg, IL, Anna “Sis” (Larry) Hill of Muscatine and Loren (Teresa) Wakefield, Jr., of Ankeny. 

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy in 2008; and brother, Loren.
