Obituary of Heidi Renee Salazar Toye

           Heidi Renee Salazar Toye, 48, of Washington, passed away after a long battle with numerous health conditions on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in Washington, Iowa.  A celebration of life memorial to honor Heidi will be held at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction, IA on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at 1:00 p.m.  Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Masonic Hall in Columbus City.  Private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Fulton Cemetery, Cairo, Iowa.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Heidi's name.             Heidi was born to Tomas “Sal” and Carla (Lukins) Salazar on April 21, 1969 in Washington, Iowa.   She graduated from Columbus community Schools and received an associates degree from Indian Hills Community College.  After college, she moved out east to be a nanny to several families as she loved children.  While living in the Boston area, she met Andrew Toye and married on August 1, 1992.  To this union was born the light of her life, her children, Ian Jacob and Sydney Grace.  Heidi and Andy later divorced.

            Heidi enjoyed life, loved her children “Bubba” and “Little Mama” and most recently was overjoyed and delighted at the birth of her first grandchild, Evelyn “Evie” Mae and would have spoiled her rotten!  She enjoyed photography, playing cards, watching TV, reading, keeping in touch with friends and old classmates by Facebook and more than anything, Heidi loved spending time with her family. Heidi lived her life to the fullest that she could.  She had a long battle but always kept her chin up and did her best until the end. 

             Heidi is survived by her children, Ian of Cedar Rapids, Sydney of Tiffin; granddaughter, Evelyn “Evie”; parents, Tom “Sal” and Carla Salazar of Columbus City; siblings, Tomas III “Tommy” of Columbus City and Brianna (Paul) Wilkerson of Tiffin; nieces, Akayla and Alivia Salazar of Ankeny; nephews, Chad Luzum and Paul Werner Wilkerson of Tiffin; ex-husband, Andy Toye of Oxford; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

            She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Tomas and Emma Salazar and Ralph and Evelyn Lukins; and several special aunts and uncles.

            Heidi was an organ donor and we will always be grateful to her special friend and living donor, Tina Allen Riggan for her gift of a longer life to Heidi.
