Obituary of Margaret Karyn Hills

           Margaret Karyn Hills, 84, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.    Private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Columbus City Cemetery.  A celebration of life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Columbus Junction American Legion.  A short prayer by Don Clark will be recited at 11:30, followed by a luncheon at noon.   Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com  The Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for Karyn’s arrangement and her family. 


            Margaret Karyn Bell was born on September 21, 1933, the daughter of Howard E. and Etta M. (Dircks) Bell.  On November 14, 1948, Karyn was united in marriage to William R  Hills in West Liberty.  Karyn worked 27 years as postal carrier for the United States Postal Service and was a D.O.T. secretary for 12 years.  She was a member of the Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star.  Karyn enjoyed going to yard sales and loved camping at the Iowa State Fair along with her grandchildren and her husband, Bill. 

 

            Karyn will be deeply missed by her sons, Ted (Lisa) Hills and Tony (Jewel Vogt) Hills, both of Columbus Junction; son-in-law, Rod Staats of Columbus Junction; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hills of Columbus Junction; ten grandchildren, R.J. and Mitchell Staats, Micah Hills, Jennifer, Beth, Melissa and Jasmine Hills, Shannon and Heather Hills and Jayden Hills; 16 great grandchildren; siblings, Boone (Marian) Bell, Jerry Bell, George (Rose) Bell, Betty Boulton, and Paulette (John) Redlinger, all of Columbus Junction and many nieces and nephews. 

 

            Karyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill in 2006; son, Tim Hills; daughter, Susan Staats; grandson, Barry Staats; siblings, Peggy and Howard Kulp, Mary Jane and Melvin Meyer and Jim Bell; brother-in-law, Bill Boulton and sister-in-law, Roberta Bell.
