Obituary of Joyce Marilyn Greene-Edmondson
Joyce Marilyn Greene-Edmondson, 89, died peacefully at Colonial Manor in her home town of Columbus Junction on Friday, February 9, 2018. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Columbus Junction (her home church) with Pastor Melanie Greengo and Joyce’s son, Jeff officiating. Following the memorial service a time of food, fellowship and visitation will be held at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Columbus City Cemetery with a family only private ceremony. Cremains will also be scattered at Sanibel Island, Florida, a cherished and hallowed spot in Joyce’s life from a young child through her senior years. A general memorial fund has been established and memorials may also be directed to Hospice of Washington County and Colonial Manor in Joyce’s name. The Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction is caring for Joyce’s family and the arrangements.
Joyce was born May 30, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Helen (Rummells) and Eugene Borchardt. She was reared in Nichols, Iowa and Belle Glade, Florida. She grew up loving books, nature, and learning. She graduated from Belle Glade High School in 1946 and attended Iowa State University in Ames, IA. She majored in Child Development and was always interested in and active with children and youth, teaching Sunday school and bible school for over 40 years, and also at the Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School. She was a member of BG P.E.O., National T.T.T. Society and Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. She worked as a Methodist Church secretary in Dewitt and for Hensel Latta Harris in Washington, each for several years. She also worked several years with a grieving spouse’s organization in Iowa City, and loved reading, playing cards, cooking and dancing.
She married Russell Greene of Columbus Junction, IA, on August 7, 1949 in Ames, IA. He preceded her in death in November of 1981. She married Preston Edmondson of Columbus Junction, IA in March of 1985. He preceded her in death in August of 2011.
She is survived by three sons, Ron Greene of North Liberty, Jeffry Greene of Fairfield, Larry (Judi) Greene of Alleman, IA; five grandchildren, Jody Greene of Portland, OR, Jarrad (Missy) Greene of Wheatland, CA, Amanda Greene of Ames, IA, Russell Greene, and Mathew Greene of Alleman, IA; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Jude of Wheatland, CA; sister, Edonna Gamon of Washington; nephew, Evan Gamon of Cedar Rapids; niece, Angela (John) Greiner and family of Tiffin; and two step-sons, Craig Edmondson and Alan (Julie) Edmondson of Columbus Junction.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and one step-granddaughter, Molly Edmondson.
