Obituary of Alfred "Cal" Bohling
Alfred “Cal” Bohling, 94, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery with military rites. Visitation for Cal will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the funeral home. Alfred Calvin Bohling was born on August 29, 1923 in Muscatine, the son of Alfred B. and Mildred (Beatty) Bohling. Cal served his country in the United States Army during World War II. On August 6, 1944, he was united in marriage to Helen Bryant in California. Cal worked for Kent Corporation as a truck driver and later in quality control, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Island United Methodist Church, Elks, Allen Wright Hanft Post #100 American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed golfing, refinishing furniture and caning chairs. Cal was always there willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Cal will be deeply missed by his sons, Alfred C. (Dianne) Bohling, Jr. of Columbus Junction and Richard “Dick” (Connie) Bohling of Battle Ground, IN; three grandchildren, Tara (Darin) Rasmussen, Brandon (Denise) Bohling and Joseph (Maria Gould) Bohling; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Gillian and Paige Rasmussen and Bryce Bohling and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen in 1999; grandson, Brian Bohling; sisters, Mary Anna Wilson, Ines Cross, Frances Pelton and Alice Peters; brothers, Robert, James and John Bohling and Donald Bohling in infancy.
