Obituary of Virgil E Jarrett

Virgil E. Jarrett, 91, of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 at his home.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.  Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at Island United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018  from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Memorials have been established for the Shriner’s Hospital or Island United Methodist Church in Virgil’s name.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. 

Virgil Earl Jarrett was born on August 1, 1926 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Burt and Lela (McIntire) Jarrett.  On January 22, 1949, Virgil was united in marriage to Nova Wyatt Hoehle in Nichols, Iowa.  He had worked as a delivery driver for Sprouse Pepsi Distributing for 27 years and retired after 14 years at Hy-Vee.  Virgil was a member of the Island United Methodist Church, Muscatine Moose Lodge, the Independent Order of the Foresters and two camping clubs. He enjoyed reading, camping and watching his Cardinals play.  His greatest love was time spent with his family and dog.

Virgil will be deeply missed by his wife, Nova; children, Donna (Tom) Meerdink of Muscatine, Bill (Lori) Jarrett of Illinois City, Judy (Jon) Dirnberger of Muscatine and Dennis (Sue) Jarrett of Muscatine; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; brother, Lauren (Nona) Jarrett of Muscatine and several nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Vickie Jarrett; one grandson, Barry Jarrett and sister, Kathleen Richardson.
