Obituary of Mary "Margie" Duffey

Mary “Margie” Duffey, 94, of Lone Tree, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.  Funeral Mass for Margie will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018, at St. Mary’s Church in Lone Tree.  Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery.  Following the interment, there will be a time of refreshment and fellowship at the Lone Tree American Legion.  Visitation for Margie will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. Rosary at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Margie.  Online condolences for the Duffey family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Mary Margaret Duffey was born on March 3, 1924, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Stella (Mougin) Hall.  On February 6, 1945, Margie was united in marriage to Daniel M. Duffey at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.  Margie had worked for Oral B for 21 years.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Lone Tree and Camper’s Eight Club of Lone Tree.  She enjoyed weekly cards games with friends, crocheting, painting, crafting and traveling with the Camper’s Eight Group, visiting 46 continental US states.  Margie and Dan wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona for 35 years. 

Margie will be deeply missed by her children, Harold W. Duffey and wife, Janice of Mesa, Arizona, LaVonne M. Parizek of Iowa City, Colleen K. Sojka and husband, Charles of Riverside, Ramona M. Duffey of Iowa City, Kevin C. Duffey and wife, Reneé of Lone Tree, Roger D. Duffey of Iowa City and Anita A. Martin and husband, John of Lone Tree; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and sister, Marlene (Keith) Stevens of Hills, IA

Margie was preceded in death by his parents; husband, Daniel Duffey in 2014; sons, Russell A. Duffey, Leon F. Duffey, grandson, Justin Duffey Eitel, great-granddaughter, Syrena Ellis, and sister, Lorna (Chuck) Smith.
