Obituary of Leonard D. Hixson
Leonard D. Hixson, 90, of Iowa City, formerly of Columbus City passed away on June 18, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018, at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Interment will be held in the Columbus City Cemetery on Friday, June 22, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or St. Mark’s Methodist Church in memory of Leonard. Leonard Dale Hixson was born on January 12, 1928, in Richland, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Ruth (Singleton) Hixson. On November 17, 1947, Leonard was united in marriage to Pauline L. Partington in Letts, Iowa. He was a farmer most of his life and also worked for Plank Implements as a mechanic and Thatcher Plastics. Leonard was a member of the Columbus City United Methodist Church and after his move to Iowa City in 2007; Leonard became a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Iowa City. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing at Rathbun Reservoir and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #107, but most of all, he loved to spend time with his family.
Leonard will be deeply missed by his children, Dennis (Kathy) Hixson of Bolivar, TN, Gary (Beth) Hixson of Knoxville, TN, Shirley (Dave) Gentzler of Iowa City, Karen (Mike) Hendrickson of North Liberty and Kim (Ron) Humbert of Cedar Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; one brother, Donald Dean Hixson of Ohio and special friend, Eleanor Carthey of Iowa City.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline in 2002; two sisters, Melvine Graham and Geneve McKay and one brother, John Hixson.
