Obituary of Jon Maxwell Robertson
Jon Maxwell Robertson age 69 of Coral Springs, FL died January 25, 2018 of pneumonia. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 30th at 1:30 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction, IA. The reverend Tom Berryman, Island United Methodist Church, will officiate. Casual dress is requested. Inurnment will be in Columbus City Cemetery.
Jon was born at Hershey Hospital, Muscatine, March 5, 1948, to H. Max and Marine Shearer Robertson. He was the grandson of the late B.H. and Maude Shearer, long time editor of the Columbus Gazette, and Grace E. Robertson.
Jon grew up on the family farm near Letts with his sister Lynne and brother Tom. He attended Letts Elementary School and Louisa-Muscatine High School. His junior year he attended St. John’s Military Academy, Delafield, WI. Jon graduated from Columbus Community School in 1966. He attended Iowa State University.
Jon was baptized and confirmed at the Letts United Methodist Church. He would recall fun times in MYF, hayrack rides and summer church camp at Lake McBride. He was a member of the Letts Go 4-H Club. The hi-lite of summer was taking calves to show at the Louisa County Fair, getting to hang out around the barns, the carnival, and eating the best hot chicken sandwiches ever at the Methodist food stand.
Jon’s career was in trucking. He joined Schneider Truck Lines, International Transport, and drove cross-country coast to coast for over 25 years. He loved the free spirit of managing his own time, seeing the country and made lasting friendships with other drivers, friends, and their families.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Marine Robertson, sister-in-law, Jean Robertson and brother-in-law, Dave Shoultz.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Luisa of Coral Springs, FL; brother, Tom of Lodi, CA; and sister Lynne of Frisco, TX; nieces Angie Chambers, Bellingham, WA and Amy Simas, Castro Valley, CA and nephews Jeff Shoultz, McKinny, TX and Scott Shoultz, Seattle, WA.
