Obituary of Dorothy Sexton

Dorothy “Dot” Sexton, 87, of Lone Tree, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Pioneer Park.  Visitation will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Lone Tree American Legion.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018, at the Lone Tree American Legion.  Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery.  Following the committal service, refreshments will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.  The Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for Dorothy’s family and arrangements.

 

Dorothy Darlene Lukavsky was born on January 8, 1931, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Nellie (Wingler) Lukavsky.  On June 11, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to John L. Sexton.  Although she only completed 8th grade, Dorothy was given an award from the Honor Roll Society at Lone Tree High School for her dedication to being a reading buddy and supporter of the Lone Tree Library and summer reading programs.  Dorothy was always willing to lend a hand at the Lone Tree American Legion, an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Lone Tree Trees Forever, and most importantly, a volunteer at Pioneer Park Care Center.  Before moving to Lone Tree, Dorothy cleaned numerous homes in the Iowa City area as well as doing ironing for people.  She will be remembered for her whistling while working, her great sense of humor and smile.

 

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her children, Larry (Kerri) Sexton, Terri (Jon) Swenson and Linda (Kenny) Fobian; grandchildren, Travis (Kim) Swenson, Jennifer (Tim) Navara, Tyler (Kirstin) Swenson, Courtney (Andy) Eckrich, Dustin Fobian and Kelsi (Aaron) Lynch and great grandchildren, Izzy and Jack Swenson, Quinn and Keelea Navara, Aya and Otto Swenson, Bryson, Kendall and Drew Eckrich, and Carter and Jaxson Lynch.

 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; her special aunt, Alma Rummelhart; great grandson, Oxen Eckrich and many relatives and loved ones.
