Obituary of George Dewayne Staats

George Staats of Morning Sun, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Great River Medical Center.   Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Wapello Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Claude Perhealth officiating.   Private family burial will be in the Wapello Cemetery at a later date.   A memorial has been established for Hope Haven in George’s name.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.    The Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services are caring for George’s arrangements and his family. 

George Dewayne Staats was born August 26, 1956 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Burdette and Patricia (McKillip) Staats.  George was originally from Columbus City where he resided with his parents, he later moved to the Odessa Residential Care Facility and most recently lived at the Hope Haven Morning Sun Site Home.  George was working for Mott’s in Wapello and Hope Haven in Burlington.  He enjoyed visiting with others, riding his bike, shopping and the Christmas holiday.  George never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest.  

George will be dearly missed by his mother, Patricia Staats of Benton, Arkansas; siblings, Brenda Jean Staats of Mount Pleasant, Cheryl (Dennis) Swanson of Danville, Indiana and Tracy (Dawn) Staats of Benton, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews and many friends that were like family.      

He was preceded in death by his father, Burdette Staats in 2004; two brothers, Burdette “Sonny” Staats, Jr. and Brent Eugene Staats and sister, Carolyn Piker.
