Obituary of Doris Forbes

Doris E. Forbes, 91, of Conesville, died Sunday, December 9, 2018 Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.  Memorial visitation for Doris will be on Friday, December 14, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.  Burial will be at a later date in Swank Cemetery, south of Lone Tree.   A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Doris.  Condolences notes may be left for the Forbes family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

 

Doris Eileen Mitchell was born on February 16, 1927 in West Liberty, Iowa, the daughter of Jess and Mecie (Twitty) Mitchell.  On April 7, 1945, Doris was united in marriage to James C. Forbes in Columbus Junction.  Doris had worked for Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction for several years in housekeeping and laundry services.  She was the owner/operator along with her husband of a fencing business.  Doris was a member of the Conesville Methodist Church and Jolly 12 Sewing Club.  She enjoyed canning, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family. Doris was a proud parent of four sons who served in the United States Navy and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. 

                           

Doris will be deeply missed by her children, Jim Forbes and his wife, Judy of Conesville, Joyce Clubb of Arlington, TX, Gary Forbes and his wife, Myra of Covington, LA, Nancy Lewis and her husband, Gary of Columbus Junction, Bernard Forbes and his wife, Sandey of Conesville, Steve Forbes and his wife, Cindy of Lone Tree, and Doug Forbes and his wife, Marilyn of Columbus Junction; Sandi Slater and her husband, Gene of Grandview and Tina Fountain and her husband, David of Macon, IL; 28 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 3 and one due in January great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Cindy Forbes; sons-in-law, Vic Miller and Donnie Bean and siblings, Helen Atz of Prairie du Sac, WI, Marilyn Edminston of Bountiful, UT and Jerry Mitchell of North Liberty, IA. 

 

Doris was preceded in death her parents; her husband, James; son, John; daughters, Bonnie, Sheila and Debbie; son-in-law,Gerald Clubb; grandchildren, James Burch and Stacey Bean; great grandchild, Acheron Forbes; brother, Don Mitchell and sister, Ruth Chelf.
