Obituary of Helen Virginia Douglas Finnegan
Helen Virginia (Faulkner) Douglas Finnegan, 98, of Muscatine, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Pearl Valley Care Center. A private family service will be held at a later date with interment in Drury Reynolds Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army in Helen’s honor. Helen was born on April 3, 1920 in Drury Township, Illinois, the daughter of Fred J. and Ella (Foster) Faulkner. On October 25, 1935, Helen was united in marriage to Robert E. Douglas in Aledo, Illinois, who preceded her in death. On November 11, 1971, she married William P. Finnegan in Nashua, Iowa who died in March of 1984. Helen had worked as a private duty nurse for 34 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Eagles Lodge, Ladies of the Moose and the VFW Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed reading, dancing, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, knitting and any type of work that could be done with needles. If she was not reading or doing some sort of needlework, Helen could often be found outdoors in her garden and with her flowers.
Helen will be deeply missed by her daughters, Nancy Henke of Muscatine, Patsy England of Sisseton, South Dakota and Joyce (Melvin) Prewitt of Walcott; twelve grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Gary Douglas; four brothers and two sisters.
