Obituary of Donald Gene Sides
Donald G. Sides, 86, of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. No visitation or services have been planned at this time. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Donald’s name. Donald Gene Sides was born on July 25, 1932 in Jackson, Missouri to Mary Louise Bowerman. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1948 - 1952. On January 11, 1959, Donald was united in marriage to Merrill Dean Simerl in Memphis, Missouri. Don worked for the Missouri DOT on the bridge crew and then retired as a foreman for Quad City Die Cast after 27 years of service. He was a member of the Memphis V.F.W. and enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time at the cabin on the river, people watching and most of all spending time with his family.
Don will be deeply missed by his children, Donnetta (John) Brotherton of Grandview, Deborah (Rick) Conard of Muscatine, Douglas (Shelly) Sides of Illinois City, Darren Sides of Lone Tree, Derrick (Michelle) Sides of Fruitland, Deanna “Dee” Gerdts of Muscatine and Dustin (Lisa) Sides of Muscatine; grandchildren, Devon, Stephanie (Michael), Maegen, Demi (J.R.), Steve (Megan), Ian, Drew, Nathan, Taylor and Quinten; great grandchildren, Owen, Trey, Audra and Emily and brother-in-law, Larry (Sherry) Simerl of Agency, Iowa.
Don was preceded in death by his wife; mother; granddaughter, Mindy and one brother, Monty Montgomery.
