Obituary of James "Jim" Gage

James “Jim” Gage, 97, of Letts, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.  Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Letts Cemetery with Military Rites.   Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County or Colonial Manor of Columbus Junction in Jim’s name.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. James Norman Gage was born on October 9, 1921 in Letts, Iowa, the son of Louder and Emma (Masonholder) Gage.  Jim lived his entire life in Louisa County.  He joined the United States Navy following Pearl Harbor and served aboard the USS Portland Heavy Cruiser throughout World War II.  On August 26, 1945, Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy Wanda Ogier in Rock Island, Illinois.  Jim had worked as a carpenter until the mid 50’s and then went to work for Stanley Consultants where he worked for 28 years.  He attended Letts United Methodist Church.  He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and NRA and enjoyed building projects, hunting and fishing. 

Jim will be dearly missed by his sons, Larry (Karen) Gage and Gary (Denise) Gage, both of Letts; granddaughter, Kimberly Hewitt and her husband, Michael and their children, Brianne, Kaelyn, Andrew, Caleb, Luke, Maelle and granddaughter, Melissa Bakken and her husband, Jamie and their children, Jenna, Audrey, Adrienne, Everett, Madelyn, Ethan and Elliott. 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Wanda in 2001.
