Obituary of Juanita A West

Juanita A. West, 89, of Muscatine passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.  Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  Following the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held in the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established for the Colonial Manor Beauty Shop in Juanita’s name.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com

Juanita A. Phillips was born May 5, 1929 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ellen Moore (Garrison) Phillips.  On October 21, 1950 Juanita was united in marriage to Burton West in Aledo, IL.  Juanita was a business person of Muscatine from 1975 until 1995, while she owned and operated the Magic Touch Beauty Salon and the West Beauty Academy School of Cosmetology of Muscatine.  The business years for Juanita were very enjoyable and fulfilling, giving her the opportunity to serve the community.  Juanita was a member of the Salvation Army Church of Muscatine. 

Juanita will be missed by her sons, Joseph (Pam) West of Davenport and Bennett (Linda) West of Muscatine; daughters, Brenda (Dean) Rickey of Columbus Junction and DeaEllen West of Tama; one step-daughter, Karen Simons of Pinola, CA; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; Juanita and Burton raised two grandsons, Mathew and Joey with the passing of their daughter Joan; brothers, William (Nancy) Phillips of West Liberty, and Tony (Mary) Garrison of Wapello; sisters, Rozita Burgan of Des Moines, IA, Joanne (Charles) Lettrel of Letts, Leola Gardner of Columbus Junction and Charlene Cozad of Muscatine; sisters-in-law, Karen Garrison of Wilton and Barbara Garrison of Marshalltown, IA  and several nieces and nephews. 

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burton of December 7, 2004; daughter, Joan (Weggie) West in 1996; sisters, Mary McGorty, Jackie Brown and Roberta “Robin” McCormic and brothers, Frank Garrison, Richard Garrison and Leo Jr. Garrison.
