Glyn Hanks was such a burst of energy and presence in the church. It is such a pleasure to have known and loved him! I remember his orneriness as he would lower his voice and scowl, "Mattie May." He never called me anything but "Mattie May." He was such an excellent song leader, and often brought new songs to try, always with great gusto! He was also the dreaded, "stop running in the church" enforcer. I don't know if he drew the short string or knew his grandchildren were some of the culprits, but when Glyn Hanks came in the auditorium during basket dinner, it was business time. Immediately bellies were on the carpet hiding under the pews. I loved that he would sing with us. If ever I was singing and he heard, he would join. His readiness to sing was like readiness to breath. He exemplified how musical a life can be, as I witnessed it as so naturally from him, and from Aunt Laura. I know life was much heavier for him in later years but I think of him as always ready with songs, and vibrancy, and life. That's how I will remember him. Aunt Laura, Sam, and all of his beloved family are heavy on my heart and in my prayers.

As a grandson we adored our grandpa. Grandpa Hanks was a builder of people - willing to lend a hand to those who simply needed a hand. Junior, a shut-in, was one of the many people I watched my grandpa care for, early to church to make sure we got junior there ready and on-time. Grandpa showed us that while being a servant there was still time for Love and laughter. I specifically remember grandpa, after
picking junior up one evening, “mistaking” my knee cap as the shifter in his manual-white truck and boisterously explaining that the standard shifter just wasn’t working correctly - he did this “act” the entire ride to church jostling my knee through each shift of the gears. We laughed and laughed that car ride...”Grandpa! That’s my knee not the shifter!”

Grandfather was always a larger than life presence that engaged us youth, lifted up our spirits and told us we were of great Value. He demonstrated what it was to be Sojourner, a Man of God. Grandfather made it exciting with song, gracious humor and a simply normal, matter of fact to Be a disciple of Christ.
While many miles and transient time had separated Grandfather from me, Grandpa Glenn taught me how to drive...a standard tranny, mount (Seamless!) gutters to a house, and most importantly, to be tolerant of people. Grandfather was exactly that with this unruly grandchild!
Thank you for being a leader and a humble servant of God, Grandpa. Thank you for the memories. I love you and Hope to see you one Eternal Day.

Where do I start when it comes to Uncle Glyn? His singing, dancing, jokes? How about his never ending smiling and love? The most touching was his love of God and Aunt Audrey. God Bless and much love to you all!!
