Obituary of Betty Lou Barnes

Betty Lou Barnes, 71, of Letts, IA, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center in Wapello, IA. Funeral services for Betty will be Friday, July 1, 2005 at 10:30am at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Pastor Kimberly Bowles of the Letts United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30th at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services from 4-8:00pm. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Betty�s name. Burial will be in the Letts Cemetery. Sympathy notes may be left to the Barnes family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Betty Lou Bennett was born June 12, 1934 in Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of Earl C. and Alice J. (Walberg) Bennett. On December 19, 1954 Betty was united in marriage to Wayne A. Barnes in Columbus Junction. She attended Teacher�s College and graduated from A.I.B in Davenport, IA. Along with her husband, Betty helped with the family farm. She also worked at Weber and Huston in Letts, and she was a secretary for several years for the Columbus Community Schools. Betty was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church and a past member of the T.T.T. She enjoyed working in the yard, gardening and collecting shells and rocks, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family. Betty will be dearly missed by her husband, Wayne Barnes of Letts; her daughters, Lori Vertz of Portage, Wisconsin and Mona Barnes of Denver, Colorado; two grandsons, Kyle Vertz and Nicholas Vertz; and two sisters, Rose Mary Hayes of Iowa City and Sally Ann Carpenter and her husband, Ronald of Columbus Junction. Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
