Obituary of Darlene Sojka

Darlene D. Sojka, 81, of Riverside died Thursday, June 30, 2005 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. Mass of the Resurrection for Darlene will be at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 3, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Rev. Rich Adams of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Joni Wallace, Blake Trachta, Kristin Keiper, Nicholas Scheetz, Brett Scheetz, Trey Scheetz, Patrick Sojka and Abby Sojka. Following the committal service at the cemetery there will be a time of food and fellowship at the St. Mary's Hall. Visitation for Darlene will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2005 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. rosary service at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Darlene. Online condolences for the Sojka family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Darlene Dorothy Kleopfer was born on November 12, 1923 in Riverside, Iowa the daughter of Ralph C. and Rose W. (Muller) Kleopfer. Darlene was a 1942 graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School in Riverside. She also attended Iowa City Commercial College. On June 7, 1945, Darlene was united in marriage to Dale K. Sojka at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Darlene was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She also worked at the U of I Printing Service from 1943 - 1945, a nurse aid at the Washington Care Center from 1971 - 1973 and also helped operate the Sequel clothing store in Iowa City with her daughter. Darlene was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed going to ballgames, playing cards and gardening, but most of all, Darlene dearly loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Darlene will be deeply missed by her husband, Dale of Riverside; two sons, James D. Sojka of Gilbert, Arizona and David C. Sojka and his wife, Jennifer of Muscatine; three daughters, Jean A. Frauenholz and her husband, Ken of Swisher, Susan K. Keiper and her husband, Tim of Atkins and Patricia R. Scheetz and her husband, Dan of Oxford; eight grandchildren, Joni Wallace and her husband, Marc, Blake Trachta, Kristin Keiper, Nicholas Scheetz, Brett Scheetz, Trey Scheetz, Patrick Sojka and Abby Sojka; one brother, Alphonse Kleopfer and his wife, Joan of Kalona and one sister, Alberta R. Kos of Iowa City. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert and one sister, Phyllis Griffin.
