Obituary of Gladys Billingsly

Gladys Billingsly, 73, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Thursday, July 21, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services for Gladys will be Monday, July 25, 2005 at 1:30pm at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Rev. Linda Baldwin will officiate with Mike Jay assisting. Casketbearers will be Jason Osburn, Justin Scheef, Zack Pugh , Seth Pugh, Derick Ball and Brandon Ball. Honorary Casketbearers will be Tessa Pugh, Nikki Salek and Mandy Osburn. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24th, from 5-8:00pm at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gladys Billingsly Memorial Fund. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery. Following the committal services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Columbus Junction American Legion. Gladys Bernice Hathcock was born January 24, 1932 in Gamaliel, Arkansas, the daughter of Robert and Nancy (Gillette) Hathcock. On August 5, 1948 Gladys was united in marriage to Luther I. Billingsly in Arkansas. Gladys was a member of the Columbus Junction Presbyterian Church. She was a substitute cook at Roundy Elementary, and she was a dedicated Columbus Wildcats and Chicago Cubs fan. Gladys and Luther were owner/operators of the Kingsbury Inn of Fredonia, IA for nearly 20 years. They also were dairy farmers for many years. Gladys enjoyed her family, her dogs, sporting events, quilting and crocheting, playing games, and cards. Gladys will be dearly missed by her daughters, Rhonda Osburn of Ozark, MO; Freda Sojka and her husband, Jim; Diana Billingsly; and Denise Ball and her husband, Rick, all of Columbus Junction; grandchildren, Jason Osburn and Sara, Mandy Osburn, Nikki Salek and Lee, Justin Scheef and Shannon, Greg Sojka, Stacie Sojka, Tessa Pugh, Zack Pugh, Seth Pugh, Derick Ball and Brandon Ball; great grandchildren, Taylor, Cody, Maddie, Austin, Ethan, Emilee and Obree; 4 sisters, Valeta Crawford of Gainesville, MO, Verlene Reid of DeWitt, IA, Norma Jean Brown of Richmond, MO and Betty Jo Ketlesen of Clinton, IA; her pomeranians, Taz and Tiz. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers and 2 dogs, Tootles and Tootsie.
