Nancy & family - My mother(Mary Law)sent the news about Mike and I was so sorry to hear about his death. I must say though his obituary was wonderful I knew he (both of you) are animal lovers but was touched by his dedicaton to the Humane Socity, what a wonderful cause. I have a grandkitty if that tells you anything about our love for animals as well. When I was still in town your dog was Jenny and I remember what a kind, likeable man Mike was. My sympathy to you and the family. Take care, an old friend, Joanne

I was very sad to hear of Mike's passing, and even more sad that I had not heard of his accident so that I could have sent a letter to him. Time and distance separate me from my roots and that is often hard. Mike and I grew up together. When we were 5, we learned to ride a bike on his long gravel driveway, on a tiny bike that his Dad had built for him. We played with trucks on the hill behind his house. I delivered his paper route when he was sick, and he delivered mine. His dad drove us to junior high on cold mornings. We rode countless miles on our bikes, trying to find another rare Pepsi bottle from a bottling company in a far away place to add to his vast collection. I always wished that I could build model cars with half the skill he possessed. Mike wanted to drive trucks for as long as I can remember. It was a pure and simple dream, and he fulfilled it. Mike was always a kind, good-natured friend. All of our lives are a little better because we had the opportunity to know him.

Nancy and Family, Mike and I met in 4th grade at the age of 9 years old when he "befriended" a scared little country girl just moving to the BIG CITY. We remained friends throughout our school years and long after. I will miss his wonderful smile and laugh so much as well as a great friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time and the days ahead. Karen Mc Keown Courtois

Dear Nancy, We won't be able to make Mike's visitation or funeral and we are so sorry and wish we could. He was just about the nicest man I ever met. Always happy and smiling and would light up the room when he arrived. I will miss seeing him at the shelter. He always would raise his arm and give me a big smile and a Hello Eleanor. Our card will contain the donation towards the memorial tree and stone to be placed near the new building at the shelter. I know it will give me comfort to see it and we hope it will bring you and the family some comfort. With deep sympathies, Eleanor and Tom

My deepest sympathy on Mike's passing. Mike and I were acquainted from high school/college days. He always had a smile and a friendly greeting for everyone. As fate would have it, my daughter, Linda Kwirant and her family became next-door neighbors to the Pagels. Linda always says she has the best neighbors in the whole world. I believe it. Mike was virtually another Grandpa to Chloie and Avery. Someone else mentioned a trip with the MCC chorus to see "Golden Boy". I was on that trip, and I can confirm the report of "non-stop singing" by Mike and others. What a wonderful man he was! We'll all miss him.

To the Pagel Family, Since I went to school with both Nancy and Mike, I remember the Christmas cards I would receive. One year Mike took a picture of his entire bottle collection; another year it was the city trucks that he drove. Also when Mike and I were at MCC we had the opportunity to go and see " Golden Boy " with the MCC chorus which we were both in - we sang songs all the way to and from Chicago. Mike truely loved to sing! Our condolences to you all. Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a great friend!!!

To Nancy, I was deeply saddened today to receive an email from Rae Ann Egeland (former Rae Ann Miller) about Mike's death. I have thought of you both so fondly over the years and always remember when you first bought your large Victorian home on Mulberry. I remember Mike's many adventures with his roadsides finds and collections. I remember our good years together in Junior High and High School. I am now working as a chaplain (I'm also an interfaith minister) at our local hospital. I will send my prayers your way and hope that you will be comforted in your grief. Mike was the best and I'm glad you had so many years of marriage with him. Loving Regards, Judith McLean (Jeannie Kathrein)
