Obituary of Gordon O. Day

Gordon O. Day, 90, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at Unity Hospital after a sudden illness. Memorial services will be Sunday, November 20, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sweetland United Methodist Church. Rev. Jaye Johnson of Sweetland United Methodist Church will officiate. There will be no graveside service at this time, as Gordon has donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine�s Deeded Body Program. All friends are invited to share a lunch with the family at the church at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Visitation for Gordon will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2005 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. Masonic Service at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Sweetland United Methodist Church or the Day Family Scholarship in Genetics at the University of Iowa Foundation in Iowa City in Gordon�s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the Day family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral & Cremation Services is caring for Gordon�s family and his service. Gordon Oliver Day was born January 1, 1915 in Sweetland Township, Muscatine the son of Goldsmith Oliver and Grace Mae (Romig) Day. Gordon married Ruth Evelyn Holtz, in Ruth�s parents� home on March 12, 1939. Gordon was a lifelong resident of Muscatine County, and was involved in many community activities. He was a member of the Sweetland United Methodist Church since 1926. He farmed in Sweetland Township until 1969. He then purchased the John Deere dealership which he ran for a number of years. Gordon was past president of the Muscatine County Farm Bureau, served on the Farm Service board, and was a 4-H leader. He had served as a trustee of Unity Hospital (formerly Muscatine General Hospital), and was a board member of Central State Bank from 1969 to 1999. He was a member of Iowa Masonic Lodge #2, Davenport Consistory and Kaaba Shrine. Gordon survived by his daughter, Janet Williams and her husband, Bill, of Solon, Iowa; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Paul Williams and his wife, Tracy, of Lake Zurich, Illinois and Laura Williams of Chicago, Illinois; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, Brady and Chelsea Williams. He is also survived by a nephew, Gary McCullough, of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth in March 2003 and two sisters.
