Obituary of Gayle P. Hurlbut

Gayle Paul Hurlbut was born February 18, 1922 in Muscatine the son of Paul J. and Elma M. (Ruckles) Hurlbut. On February 18, 1941 Gayle was united in marriage to Marjorie L. Smith in Muscatine. Gayle served in the United States Army during WWII from 1944 through 1946 in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy and was a recipient of a Bronze Star. He was employed for seven years with the Muscatine Fire and Rescue, worked as an electrician for nine years at Grain Processing and was an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local #145. Gayle was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local #145, Thomas Wiley Lodge #5 Order of the Oddfellows and the Iowa Lodge #2 of Masons. He enjoyed his Ham Radio KA0STH, playing with the grandkids, fixing things and was athletic in his day. Gayle will be deeply missed by his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Jack D. Hurlbut and his wife, Diana of Muscatine and Richard R. Hurlbut and his wife, Mary, of Marion, Iowa; two daughters, Norma A. Long and her husband, Edward and Gail L. George and her husband, John, both of Muscatine; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Charles V. Hurlbut and his wife, Lucille, Fredrick C. Hurlbut and his wife, Johanna and Robert Hurlbut and his wife, Norma, all of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Allen, Merle, Wilden and Paul Hurlbut.
