Obituary of Elmus Haskins

Elmus Haskins, 78, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Casketbearers will be Rusty Collins, Alan Collins, Donnie Collins, Brian Collins, Ronald Collins, Donald Brown, Jr., and Jason Willroth. Honorary casketbearers will be Kevin Haskins and Gary Gafeller. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery with Military Rites by the combined units of the VFW Post #1565 and the American Legion Post #27. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held in the Community Room at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral & Cremation Services. Visitation for Elmus will be held on Friday, December 9, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or Unity Hospice in Elmus� name. Sympathy notes may be left for the Haskins family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral & Cremation Services is caring for Elmus� family and his service. Elmus Haskins was born November 2, 1927 in Hammond, Missouri the son of Lowell and Lois Piland Haskins. On October 1, 1948, Elmus was united in marriage to Bonnie B. Collins in Palmyra, Missouri. Elmus had over 60-years of various truck driving jobs throughout the years, retiring from GM industries in 2001. He served as an escort for General Eichelberger, Commanding Officer of the 8th Army in Japan during World War II. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion. He enjoyed family gatherings, driving trucks and dealing in used cars. Elmus will be deeply missed by his wife, Bonnie; four sons, Otis Haskins and his wife, Nadine, Steven Haskins and his wife, Pam, Randy Haskins and his wife, Lorrie all of Muscatine, and Larry Haskins and his wife, Vicki of Durant; one daughter, Donna Call and her husband, Bill of Muscatine; one brother, Ronnie Robirds of Missouri; four sisters, Georgia Bolinger and her husband, Mike of Anchorage, Alaska, Bonnie Edenburg of San Jose, California, Lourene Garcia of Tucson, Arizona and Donna Horton of East Peoria, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
