Obituary of Max Sellers

Max Marshall Sellers, age 88, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Saturday, December 24, 2005 at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 1:30pm at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Rev. Cathy Whitlatch of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church will officiate. Casketbearers will be Ryan Hartsock, Todd Forbes, Justin Porter, Jon Thompson, Kurtis Hartsock and Phil Chalupa. Honorary Casketbearers will be Erik Forbes, Kristin Forbes and Jacob Hartsock. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27th, from 4-7 pm at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery with full Military Rites by the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post #100. After the cemetery committal there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church for family and friends. A memorial has been established for the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church and Colonial Manor Care Center in Max�s name. Sympathy notes may be left to the Sellers� family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Max was born September 24, 1917, in Cairo, Iowa, the son of George and Vera (Marshall) Sellers. On February 4, 1942 he was united in marriage to Isabelle M. Greene. Max was drafted into the US Army on March 1, 1942, and served overseas in World War II stationed in Africa and Italy. He returned home in October 1945. Max then worked as a bookkeeper at Weber & Huston Elevator in Columbus Junction all his life until he retired in 1979. He was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and a 50-year plus member of the American Legion Post #100. Max enjoyed 21 years of winter retirement with his wife in Florida. He also enjoyed making afghans, camping, and playing cards. Max loved being with his family and was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, and great- grandfather. Max will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Jane Thompson and husband, Bob of Muscatine and Rita Porter and husband Ron of Columbus Junction; three grandchildren, Todd Forbes and wife, Glenda of Noblesville, Indiana, Heidi Hartsock and husband, Ryan of Columbus Junction, and Justin Porter of Cedar Rapids; his special friend, Lois Houseal; two step-grandsons, Joe Thompson and wife, Heidi of Stillwater, Minnesota and Jon Thompson and wife, Sara of Iowa City; four great-grandchildren, Kristin and Erik Forbes of Noblesville, Indiana, and Kurtis and Jacob Hartsock of Columbus Junction; and four step-great-grandchildren, Stone, Ivy, and Eve Thompson of Stillwater, Minnesota, and Nate Thompson of Iowa City. Max was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on April 30, 2001 and one son Thomas Max Sellers.
