Obituary of Florence Whitton
Florence Caroline Whitten, 91, of Muscatine, died Friday, February 3, 2006, at
Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 7, 2006
at 10:30 a.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.
Pastory Darryl Erickson of the Grandview Community Bible Church will officiate.
Casket Bearers will be, Tom Courthause, Russell Lamp, Bradley Lamp, Randy Burgus,
Steve Rowe, Troy Rowe, Doug Scott and Earl McGill. Burial will be in Grandview
Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held in
the Friendship Center at the Grandview Community Bible Church. Visitation for
Florence will be held on Monday, February 6, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the
Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials for
Florence may be directed to the Salvation Army. Sympathy notes may be left for the

Florence Caroline Rowe was born on October 28, 1914 in Letts, Iowa, the daughter of
Albert and Lydia Hingst Rowe. On August 21, 1945 Florence was united in marriage to
Jesse "Boots" Whitten in Rockport, Indiana. Florence graduated from Letts High
School in 1932. During World War II she worked at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
She was later employed at the Kresge store and worked many years at the Muscatine
County Auditors Office until her retirement. Florence was born and raised on the
farm and loved all farm animals and watching the chickens, ducks and horses. She
enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and needlepoint. She was an avid reader, enjoyed
traveling, and especially liked taking care of her cat Suzy. Florence was also a
long time member of the Ladies of the Moose in which she held many offices. She was
a Senior Regent, Academy of Friendship, and lastly the College of Regents.
Florence will be deeply missed by her sister Jean D. Burgus of Burlington; two
brothers, Wesley R. Rowe of Muscatine, and Lawrence "Babe" Rowe and his wife Betty
Jo of Grandview; one sister-in-law, Gladys Rowe of Wapello; one brother-in-law,
Lyman Howe of Sperry, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on February 11, 1975; two
brothers, Ted and Calvin; and two sisters, Mabel and Gertrude
