It was such a disappointment to read of Harriet passing away. She was always so "upbeat" and
happy and pleasant to meet, and to chat with. She will certainly be missed.
My condolences to her family.

To the family of Harriet: What a surprise to read of the passing of Harriet! Karen and I always enjoyed visiting with her and sharing stories of Cotter. She was a very interesting lady who had a wealth of knowledge about the Welsh community and the world. We would like to extend our sympathy to each family member for your loss. Our contact with Harriet generally centered around social events in Ainsworth and Washington. She was a devoted Cotter-ite and this I admired for her continued interest, Harriet will definitely be missed. May God bless each of you!

It is heartwarming to read of Harriet's gifts to young readers and friends! On my trips back to Cotter farm community, we would visit the library, and the historical museum in the old library in the Jct. and at Wapello. She had a love for history, and the community. We would go visit the folks at Restopia and she used to give slide show presentations. She did care so much for all. I will miss her too!

I enjoyed and appreciated Miss Jones Back in the day. I was a library aide for a year and I can remember my Mom pointing out that it is unbelievable that a kid as loud as I was could be a library aid. It was because Miss Jones was patient and always had that smile that is seen in the picture above.

Mrs. Jones was one of my favorite substitute teachers in six grade! I’ll lose remember her as a tough but gentle spirit! I’m sad she has departed but I’m glad she’s at rest.

Hattie came to Alaska in 2009 to visit me. We took a boat ride out to see Glaciers and had a great time sight seeing. I will miss stopping by and visiting her when I come to Columbus City. Hattie was a giving & helpful person. She liked to talk about her travels and was very proud of her Welsh background. I will truly miss Hattie Jones.

I am sorry to hear of Harriett's passing she was a good neighbor to my mom. The two of them walked to the post office and back and just kept up on one another. It was good for both of them. . . I know she is welcomed in to the arms of loved ones as she begins her next adventure.

My sympathy to Harriet's family. Although I didn't know her well, Harriet was a great friend to my mother Esther Timmons and they enjoyed frequent trips together to Ainsworth (many to see Mike Zahs presentations) and other events around the area. May she rest in peace.

Dear Harriet,
Thank you ...
For being a caring, next-door colleague on the third floor of the old Columbus School in the 1980's.
For all the packets of newspaper clippings for my classes and for my family going back to the '50's. (Before the internet, there was Harriet.)
For the yearly birthday and holiday phone calls.
For the thoughtful gifts: the Georgia O'Keeffe prints, the fancy, artsy stamps, the get-well angel lucky token, etc.
And for all the shared laughs and good cheer. Many memories from a dear friend.

I am so sorry to hear about Miss Jones. She was the librarian when I was in elementary and junior high at Columbus. She was very special to me, in that she helped nurture my love of reading. I remember her scouring the shelves for books for me to read and authors for me to explore. Once she found an author I liked, I read them all, and she was looking for more for me. Every time I open a book (which is daily) I think of her and the joys of Judy Blume and Victoria Holt and all the places she sent me in those books. She will be missed! Thoughts to her family!

We used to own the Dairy Sweet that is right outside of Columbus Junction and Harriet used to come there on Sundays to eat and she always ordered the same thing. I like Harriet and I appreciated her ways. When I was a member of the Methodist Church there in Columbus City, Harriet would come to the women's meetings and I always enjoyed talking to her. One day just out of the blue, she gave me a gift. It was a beautiful piece of China that had a light green band around the outside and blue flowers. The name of the china was Susanne, which is my name. I cherish it and it sits on my window seal above my kitchen sink. When I look at it, I always think of Harriet. Thank you Harriet for the sweet memories.
