Obituary of Phyllis Irene Jones

Phyllis I. Jones, 95, of Muscatine, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 27, 2019.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church.  Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.  Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church fellowship hall.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church or the Muscatine Humane Society in Phyllis’ name. Phyllis Irene Velten was born on February 2, 1923 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Robert C. and Beulah (Houchard) Velten.  On April 25, 1947, Phyllis was was united in marriage to M. Donald Jones in Ottumwa, Iowa.  Phyllis graduated from Drake University with a major in music and as a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.  Phyllis shared her gift of music with many for over 50 years, playing for church, nursing homes and countless life celebrations.  Phyllis was a devoted member of the First Christian Church, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, loved reading, traveling, playing cards, doing needlepoint, cross-stitching and going out to eat. 

Phyllis will be dearly missed by her children, Sharon Coppinger of Payson, Arizona, Steven (Deb) Jones of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Cindy (Randy) Allen of Muscatine; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Miller, MaryBeth West and significant other, Gary, Jeff Coppinger, Jill (Austin) Schmidt, Josh (Heather) Allen, Cody Allen, Brandon (Dr. Kate Cox) Jones and Aaron (Christy) Jones; and 14 great grandchildren. 

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don in 2001 and one great granddaughter, Haleigh West.
