Obituary of William Austin Durst

William A. Durst, 87, of Muscatine, died Monday, August 1, 2005, at Lutheran Homes. Funeral services will be Friday, August 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home Dr. Hal Green of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate. Casketbearers will be Brian Durst, Mark Durst, Stephen Durst and John Briggs. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites by the combined units of the VFW Post #1565 and the American Legion Post #27. Visitation for William will be held on Friday, August 5, 2005 from 9:30 a.m. till service time at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in William�s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the Durst family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral & Cremation Services is caring for William�s family and his service. William Austin Durst was born January 31, 1918 in Muscatine, Iowa the son of William and Florence Martin Durst. On April 29, 1939 William was united in marriage to May M. Harrington in West Liberty, Iowa. William was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving during WW II from 1945 through 1946. He was life-long resident of the Muscatine area and was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, 15-year member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, life member of the V.F.W. and Moose Lodge and a past member of the American Legion. He worked for Carver Pump for 13-years and then later became the Assistant City Assessor from 1971 to 1978. William will be deeply missed by his son Stephen A. Durst and his wife, Glenda of Kendalia, Texas; his daughter Linda Sue Hopp and her husband, Gene of Hollister, California; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, May in January 2004, his sister, Margaret Keller and his half-sister, Isabelle Dillwith.
